SUNY Cortland football wins first national championship

SUNY Cortland's football team made history when it won its first Division III football national championship at the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, in Salem, Virginia, on Dec. 15. The Red Dragons defeated North Central College (Ill.), the previously unbeaten top-ranked Division III team in the country and last year's national champion, in a game broadcast on ESPNU and ESPN+. Ranked 11th nationally in the final D3football.com poll before the playoffs, Cortland went 14-1 on the season and is the first school from New York state to win the Division III title game since 1991. Football team in historic national championship

SUNY Cortland's football team will make school history when it plays in its first-ever Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl for the Division III football national championship Friday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. on ESPNU and ESPN+. The Red Dragons will travel to Salem, Virginia, to take on North Central College (Ill.), the top-ranked Division III team in the country and last year's national champion. Ranked 11th nationally in the final D3football.com poll of the regular season, Cortland is 13-1 on the season and the first school from New York state to reach the Division III title game since 1991.
