NIL Finder, a business startup created by three SUNY Cortland students to help college athletes secure money-making opportunities, placed among the elite at this year's New York Business Plan Competition.

SUNY Cortland's 40th Annual Student Leadership Recognition Banquet honored 51 students. Each spring, the university hosts the event to recognize student leaders chosen for their outstanding service and commitment to the campus and community.

Thirteen SUNY Cortland students were selected to pursue donor-funded summer fellowship research, continuing a university program in its 19th year of existence. Managed by the university's Undergraduate Research Council, the summer fellowship research gives students a $4,000 stipend and campus research space and housing during eight weeks of full-time study from late May through early August. They will present the results of their studies at the university's annual Transformations: A Student Research and Creativity Conference.

SUNY Cortland's Sustainability Office kicked off a year of planet-friendly action by introducing the campus to its newest Green Reps. The mission of these nine students is to inspire more environmentally conscious lifestyles through peer-to-peer environmental education programs that encourage a more eco-friendly and sustainable campus and lifelong behaviors. Green Reps work to bring sustainability to their peers and the campus community by developing sustainability communications and outreach campaigns, such as newsletter articles; hosting programs at residence halls; and collaborating to create campuswide events each semester.

Twenty SUNY Cortland students were recently elected as members of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

The 9th annual Michael J. Bond '75, M.D. Alumni/Undergraduate Research Science Symposium featured two students chosen to deliver the event's William C. Baerthlein '76, M.D. Student Presenter lectures. The symposium was created to connect Cortland undergraduates and faculty with alumni researchers, demonstrating that important science careers are launched from SUNY Cortland with the experience gained through undergraduate research.

Forty-five SUNY Cortland transfer students were inducted into Tau Sigma National Honor Society on Monday, April 1. Tau Sigma, including its SUNY Cortland Pi chapter, is an academic honor society designed to recognize and promote the academic excellence and involvement of transfer students. To qualify, students must have transferred to SUNY Cortland from another academic institution with at least one full year's academic credits satisfied and must have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 after earning 12 or more credits at Cortland.

This spring, 49 SUNY Cortland students were honored during the university's 39th Annual Student Leadership Recognition Banquet for the integral leadership roles they've had on campus. The event recognizes student leaders for their outstanding service and commitment to the school and community.

SUNY Cortland's chapter of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology, welcomed 14 students as new members on April 17.

Three SUNY Cortland seniors will receive the SUNY Chancellor's Award - the highest student honor presented by New York's public university system - at a ceremony to be held April 11 in Albany, N.Y. The Chancellor's Awards are given each year to students from SUNY's 64 campuses who have demonstrated academic excellence while balancing leadership roles, campus involvement, community service and achievements in the arts, athletics or career-related pursuits.

Seventeen students representing nine student organizations spoke with New York Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado when he visited SUNY Cortland. While here, Delgado discussed the university's wide-ranging community service efforts and how the students can help inspire a new statewide initiative. The student input will help inform the early development of New York's Office of Service and Civic Engagement, a state office announced by Governor Kathy Hochul in January that Delgado is tasked with developing.

SUNY Cortland's football team made history when it won its first Division III football national championship at the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, in Salem, Virginia, on Dec. 15. The Red Dragons defeated North Central College (Ill.), the previously unbeaten top-ranked Division III team in the country and last year's national champion, in a game broadcast on ESPNU and ESPN+. Ranked 11th nationally in the final D3football.com poll before the playoffs, Cortland went 14-1 on the season and is the first school from New York state to win the Division III title game since 1991. SUNY Cortland's football team will make school history when it plays in its first-ever Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl for the Division III football national championship Friday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. on ESPNU and ESPN+. The Red Dragons will travel to Salem, Virginia, to take on North Central College (Ill.), the top-ranked Division III team in the country and last year's national champion. Three SUNY Cortland students traveled to Cuba to present their undergraduate research efforts, marking the university's first student visits to the communist island nation since the COVID-19 pandemic. The Cortland group flew to the country for the 2nd Cienfuegos International Scientific Convention at Cuba's Universidad de Cienfuegos. There, the students presented their Cortland research to a wider international audience.
